Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy explains how Brrk accesses, collects, uses, shares, protects, retains, and deletes user data.

No Ads
No Tracking

Short version: Brrk is local-first. It has no account system, no ads, no analytics, and no telemetry. Network requests happen when you choose to run OCR or vocabulary lookup with your own Mistral API key.

1. Who provides Brrk

Brrk is provided by CHIKOB Development, operated by Junya Kobayashi.

For privacy inquiries, contact junya.chikob@gmail.com. You may also submit non-sensitive bug reports through GitHub Issues. Do not include API keys, private documents, OCR response bodies, or sensitive personal information in public issues.

2. Data Brrk stores on your device

Brrk stores the following data locally in app-private Android storage:

Paper book records, page labels, and captured page image file references.
Imported PDF records and local PDF file references.
OCR Markdown generated from paper pages or PDFs.
Manual Markdown edits that you save.
Notes, tags, PDF notes, vocabulary definitions, and vocabulary encounter examples.
OCR cache records used to avoid duplicate OCR requests for the same image or PDF.
Reading appearance preferences and one-time disclosure acknowledgements.

Your Mistral API key is stored locally using Android secure storage. Brrk does not operate a server that receives or stores your app data.

3. Data Brrk sends off your device

Brrk sends data off your device only for app features you start:

Vocabulary lookup	The selected word or short term, its containing sentence, source metadata, and your Mistral API key in the authorization header.	Mistral Chat Completions API	Generate a short definition and normalized vocabulary entry.

For vocabulary lookup, Brrk sends only the selected word/term and its containing sentence. It does not send the full page or full document for vocabulary lookup.

Brrk closed tester access is managed through Google Groups at brrk-closed-test@googlegroups.com. No Google questionnaire is required. Google Group membership information is not collected by the Brrk app itself. Do not send API keys, private documents, or sensitive personal information to the tester group.

5. Third parties and sharing

Brrk uses Mistral AI as a third-party service provider for OCR and vocabulary lookup when you start those features. Mistral's handling of data sent to its APIs is governed by Mistral's own terms and privacy practices.

Brrk does not sell personal or sensitive user data. Brrk does not share user data for advertising, analytics, tracking, or marketing.

6. Permissions

Camera: used only to capture physical book pages when you start capture.
Internet: used for Mistral OCR and vocabulary lookup requests.

PDF import uses Android's system file picker. Brrk does not request broad storage access for PDF import.

7. Security

Network requests to Mistral use HTTPS.
Your Mistral API key is stored through Android secure storage.
App data is stored in app-private storage.
Android full-data backup is disabled for Brrk.

No app can guarantee absolute security, especially when data is sent to third-party services at your request. Keep your device, operating system, and API credentials secure.

8. Retention and deletion

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it in the app, clear app data, or uninstall Brrk.

You can delete imported PDFs and paper books in the app.
You can delete notes, vocabulary entries, and vocabulary encounters in the app.
You can clear OCR cache data from Settings.
Uninstalling Brrk removes app-private local data from the device.

Brrk has no account system, so there is no Brrk account to delete. For data sent to Mistral, consult Mistral's policies and account controls.

9. Children

Brrk is not directed to children. Do not use Brrk to process children's personal data unless you have the necessary rights and consent to do so.

10. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Brrk changes. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision.
